The different tools in the Power BI family can sometimes be confusing. A common confusion we see among customers are which of the tools are supported in Excel 2010 against 2013, And in the 2013 version there are so many different types of licenses .
This post should clear things out a bit :
Power Pivot:
Excel 2010 ? A separate download for all versions of Excel 2010 – Download Link
Excel 2013 ? Built in Excel 2013 Professional Plus and Excel pro plus 365 (Just need to enable the addin)
Not included in all other versions (Not Even in the professional version)
Power Query:
Excel 2010 ? Free addin (has some limitations like loading to data model)
Excel 2013 ? Free addin (fully functional)
Power View:
Excel 2010 ? Does not exists
Excel 2013 ? Built in (2013 Professional plus and Pro plus 365)
Power Map:
Excel 2010 ? Does not exists
Excel 2013 ? Here it is a bit tricky:
* 2013 Professional Plus ? Exists as a separate download in preview
* Pro Plus 365 ? Released as a part of on the the 365 updates (Microsoft?s approach – Cloud first)
To avoid memory issues , It is recommended to install the 64bit of Excel when working with the above products.
